The Timebomb has been up and running for 7 years. HTML, Blogger, Xanga, Livejournal, I’ve tried most of the big ones. It looks like I may have finally found the solution I’ve been looking for all this time.
HTML is great because it gives you complete control of the site. You can’t make whatever you want, and you’re not bound by any type of structure whatsoever. The only problem with that is that updating can be a real *****, even if you do it in frontpage or something else.
Xanga, Livejournal, and Blogger are all great for updating. Unfortunately, they don’t allow the average person a lot of room in terms of customization. Now I know you can get really creative with blogger themes and Xanga skins, but I don’t wanna have to sit around and figure out the “Xanga way” to optimize my existing design concepts or whatever. It’s very limiting outside of the header that they allow you to customize.
I’ve heard about WordPress for a few years now. Being unsatisfied with my Xanga (though it is awesome for my photoblog), I decided that I would finally get around to trying out WordPress. My only regret is that I never used this sooner.
The customization is nice. Anyone who’s familiar with using Xanga, but prefers something that looks a lot sleeker, will be at home with the tools that WordPress has in its arsenal. Not only that, but it allows you to use CSS, which is something that I’ve wanted to learn for a long time now. I guess I’ve finally got some motivation.
For the record, this is to remain a personal blog.
… and for those keeping score, I do plan on updating this more than once a month.
